Super rare gutta-percha Smith & Wesson case with .22 rimfire revolver. It still retains almost all the silver plate, and the barrel has much of the original blue. Mechanically it functions the way it should and has a nice bore. The grips retain almost all of the varnish with a tiny chip on the right heal. This is a 7 shot with a 3-3/16” barrel. Revolver was made in 1864. I bet it was a gift to a high-ranking officer or General. $16k

1880’s FACTORY ENGRAVED & CASED SMITH & WESSON REVOLVER. ENGRAVED BY OTTO BODENSTEIN.
Rare mint condition panel scene factory engraved & cased Smith & Wesson Revolver. Engraved by Otto Bodenstein. His engraving for Colt is short lived, only noted for short period where his very distinct ”Merwin & Hulbert” style rope and tiny punch dots. Very few S&W are noted of Bodenstein engravings. Makes this revolver a rare and special one. When Bodenstein engraved exclusively for Hopkins & Allen who manufactured the Merwin revolvers, often a colored enamel was added to engraving for a unique finish. Mother of Pearl grips and .38 caliber. Displays very nice. POR
