It has brass guard with engraved stars on quillons. Black forged his knives behind a leather curtain and kept his process a secret. Black’s knives were known to be exceedingly tough yet flexible. Extremely rare Cincinnati Ohio knife maker Marks & Rees. They were known for making surgical instruments. Marks & Rees offered all kinds of Bowie knives on hand, of their own manufacture finished in a superior style. The blade on this Bowie is absolutely phenomenal. It is made of the highest quality and still remains very sharp. It has a beautiful stag horn handle with sterling silver butt cap. There are only a handful of these Bowie knives found. This one has a 10 1/8 inch blade and 15 3/4 inch overall. The guard is silver and retains the original patina as does the blade. Bowie is maker marked MARKS & REES CINCINNATI. A great civil war period Bowie made in America. $2495
