1800’S PRESENTATION GRADE BLACKFOOT INDIAN DAG KNIFE.
This is a rare and exceptional American Indian Dag Knife attributed to the Blackfoot Indians dating to the 19th century. This is a presentation grade knife, sometimes referred to as a Chief’s grade knife. Bonham’s Auction House listed a very similar example of Presentation Dag knife in their June 1, 2015, sale which sold for $18,750 and shows the same pattern of manufacture with the elaborate placards and flat grip having a rounded hilt area with flared gripping area which tapered to a round pommel. The knife blade had the same patina as the piece offered here. Sotheby’s Auction House offered a Blackfoot Dag knife that sold for $22,500 that had the same grip pattern and patina blade. The beaver back Dag knife shows a solid wood classic high grade Dag knife handle with brass placards. A great center piece for any collection. P.O.R

This fighting knife was made by the Hassam Brothers of Boston for the use by Union & Confederate troops in the Civil War. It has the classic stag horn grip with the silver ferrule and cap. With the desirable ‘S’-Shaped Cross guard, the 8-1/2” blade has a nice even patina and is clearly stamped with the Hassam, Boston’ mark at the ricasso. Measures 14-1/4” overall. Coming from, and given to Anderson’s grandfather by the widow of David Lawrence Anderson, grandfather 2nd cousin Billy Wilson, who rode with and befriended BTK during the Lincoln County War, and who was thought to have been given the photo to hold as safekeeping prior to BTK’S 1881 murder.
