EXHIBITION PANEL SCENE COLT SINGLE ACTION 45 CALIBER REVOLVER.
7-1/2” Barrel, 80% engraved exhibition panel scenes of Northern Plains Indians made in 1876. Factory letter records the revolver as 45 caliber, barrel length not listed, blue finish, sold to JP Moore’s but shipped to Schuyler, Hartley and Graham, NY. June 14, 1876, 3 weeks before Colt Philadelphia Exposition in July 1876. Revolver shows matching serial numbers on barrel, frame, trigger guard, backstrap and cylinder assembly number 81 on loading gate matching to frame under trigger guard. Engraved coverage includes barrel, ejector housing, cylinder, screws, frame trigger guard, hammer loading gate, and backstrap. Left side with Indian warrior on horseback hunting a buffalo with lance, an interesting motif considering the Indian relations in 1876. Condition of revolver is very good, all matching serial numbers. P.O.R
RAREST PLAINS RIFLE CARLOS GOVE.
Indian tacked plains rifle made by Carlos Gove. He worked in St. Joseph, Missouri 1852-54, Council Bluffs, Iowa 1840-52 and 1854-62. He built rifles and tomahawks mostly for the Rocky Mountain western trade. In 1862 he moved to Denver, Colorado where he worked his trade until his death in 1884. Gove is one of the most famous makers of the old west. Barrel is marked C. Gove Denver City. Double set triggers, Indian tacked and copper wire wrapped. C. Gove plains rifles are scarcer than the Hawken rifles. P.O.R
