SIOUX WAR CHIEF HORN CHIPS PERSONAL CATLINITE PIPE TOMAHAWK. WOUNDED KNEE BATTLE.

Rare circa 1870-1880 catlinite pipe tomahawk with silver inlays and long catlinite attached stem having belonged to noted Sioux Indian Horn Chips. He was best friend and medicine man to famous Sioux War Chief Crazyhorse and reported that he was the only person who knew the true location of Crazyhorse’s burial site. The pipe tomahawk has a replaced wooden smoking tip and the head and handle have been glued or permanently attached to avoid further deterioration. There are a few minor cracks at the insert tip area. This pipe tomahawk was purchased by famous American Indian weapons collector Mark Francis directly from the Chips/Means/Big Eagle family in the summer of 2000 at the Pine Ridge Sioux reservation in South Dakota. It is a very rare and improtant historical artifact of the Indian wars period and featured in the book ”The Mark Francis Collection of American Indian Art” P.O.R

HISTORIC DAG LONE HORN. LITTLE BIG HORN.

Very historic and rare Dag knife owned and carried by Lone Horn/One Horn. Written in togia on the handle band and Elk horn. Lone Horn/One Horn-Chief-Devil Medicine Man. On the elk handle is the mark of Lone Horn’s Devil Medicine Man Band, the Holy Band of the Wakpokinyan Minneconjou Band, which Lone Horn headed. This was Chief One Horn’s personal knife.  As a chief of the Minneconjou, One Horn was one of the signers of the 1868 Treaty of Fort Laramie. Durning the wars of 1876-1877, One Horn and his band followed his nephew Crazy Horse, and he was personally present durning the Rosebud and Little Bighorn battles. COA Wendell Grangaard. For the Indian Territory Map, the tribal lands are shown—Chickasaw,Cherokee,Comaches and Apaches etc. Map measures 11.8 x 17 inches and is in great condition. $295

Indian birdstone pipe from Indiana. Probably associated with the Glacial Kame culture. Pecked, ground and polished from an unusual conglomerate. Interior diameter of bowl suggests it was not used practically probably for ceremonial purpose only. Measures 6 inches in length and 3 inches tall. $1595
